CHPC Winter / Spring Season 2011

Leigh Dunscombe 4/7/2011 |Welcome to the new season of the Combined Hotels Pool Competition 2011.

The new Winter/Spring season kicks of tonight (Monday 4th July) and there are a few changes to be aware of.  Firstly the two Kinglake teams will be returning to their home pub up the hill as Kinglake 1 and Kinglake 2 from Wallan East 2 and Flowerdale 2 respectively.  A big thank you goes to both Wallan East and Flowerdale for taking on extra teams last season in the interest of a healthy competition.  They will both continue to participate in the new season with 1 team each.

In other news The Red Lion have been forced to relocate for the season due to administrative issues at the Hotel. They will be joining the Royal Oak fold for the season as The Royal Oak 2 and thanks also goes to the Royal Oak Hotel for taking on an extra team for the season.

So the new season will be contested as follows.

Kinglake Pub (2 Teams)
Royal Oak Hotel (2 Teams)
With Flowerdale, Strath Creek and Wallan East each with 1 team.

Rumor has it that there may be a few player changes around the traps as well so stay tuned.  Should make for some interesting contests.

RED LION GET THE CHOCOLATES

RedLionLeigh Dunscombe 22/6/2011 |I said that the Red Lion would throw everything they had at Wallan East 2 to win the premiership trophy and that is exactly how it played out.  After losing the opening game of doubles the Red Lion never really looked back.  Their persistence and patience saw them take a 5 – 2 victory winning the remaining two doubles matches and the first singles match, Despite a clean sweep off the break by Tony O’Rourke in the first frame, before Wallan East 2 managed to claw back their final victory of the night from the cue of Wayne Hicks. The Red Lion took the next two matches and the premiership finishing off their season on the ultimate high.  Congratulation’s to them and commiserations to Wallan on what has been a fantastic season for both sides.

Congratulations also go to The Flowedale Hotel who provided the perfect venue for the night. A fantastic table, Nice big, warm venue, Great supper and as always great hospitality and service.  <more...>

trophyLeigh Dunscombe 7/6/2011 |The Red Lion took a 5-1 victory over the Royal Oak at Strath Creek last night to secure their spot in the Grand Final against Wallan East 2 in a fortnight.

Although the score line may suggest an easy win for the Red Lion (5-1) you can rest assured that it wasn’t. The Royal Oak took the game to them in every contest in what seemed like a never ending battle, neither side willing to sacrifice even a glimmer of hope or an easy shot to the opposition. But the Red Lion eventually proved themselves to be too strong in both persistence and poise, and as the results show have earned the right to battle for the No1 spot, setting up a Grand Final between the No 1 and No 2 finishers on the ladder.

Wallan East 2 had the edge last week over the Red Lion, but you can be assured that the Reds will throw everything they have into what is certain to be an epic battle for the flag.

Wallan East 2 Secure Finals Birth

Leigh Dunscombe 31/5/2011 |Wallan East 2 have secured a place in the Combined Hotels Pool Competition Grand Final with a determined 5-3 victory over the Red Lion team at The Royal Oak Hotel in Kilmore last night. Going in to the singles 3 - love down it was never going to be an easy task for the Red Lion, but to their credit they fought back with 2 singles wins before eventually going down with a loss in the third singles match and again in the fifth.

The Royal Oak team were also victorious 5-3 over Flowerdale 1 at The Rattlers last night keeping their finals aspirations alive for the do-or-die battle against the Red Lion next week at Strath Creek.

The Red Lion have had the wood over The Royal Oak in their two encounters this season 6-3 and 7-2 but The Royal Oak are no strangers to upsets and are sure to demand the respect of their Red Lion counterparts.

Return of the Lakers to the Kinglake Pub

vicpoolLeigh Dunscombe 25/5/2011 | The two Kinglake Teams Kinglake 1 and Kinglake 2 who have played the last season as Wallan East 2 and Flowerdale 2 are set to return to their home base at the Kinglake Pub for next season.
